SportsPower Local Legend: Angela Elsayed

by The Know

Meet Angela,

Our local legend from Melrose Park

Angela was nominated by Fadie to be a SportsPower local legend. Here is what Fadie had to say…

Angela had limited knowledge about soccer but the primary school team needed a coach so she volunteered. She has read multiple training books and attended southern districts soccer coaches training course. She is pushing herself to learn as much as possible to ensure the kids have fun but also learn true skill. I am in awe of her commitment and passion.

After that nomination, we wanted to have a further Q&A with Angela to really understand this legend.

How did you get into your chosen sport?

Growing up, my family all played soccer, and this continued when I meet my soccer-mad husband. The tradition continues with my kids!

Do you have a favourite brand, product, or range that you like to buy from SportsPower?

My favourite product I recently bought was a pair of Running Bare ¾ yoga/Pilates pants, so comfy! Also in love with my Nike trainers.

What is the best piece of advice you were given that made you better?

Always make sure you are having fun and have learnt something along the way.

How do you stay motivated?

I keep motivated knowing that when I arrive at training and games there is a team of excited kids waiting for me. Knowing that I am helping them grow in skill and confidence within themselves.

What’s your favourite quote/s?
Always make sure you are having fun and have learnt something along the way.

What more can you tell us about your story…
My husband nominated me, I volunteered to coach our my daughter’s soccer team as there was no coach, I have never done anything like this outside my comfort zone, so I took the challenge on to be the best coach I can be. I touched base with previous coaches; researched methods and techniques spoke with teachers on training ideas and went to coaching school. I also watch YouTube clips on training methods for young soccer players. I am noticing confidence and skills of the kids increase and it is so heartwarming to see them get on the field and have a giant smile knowing they are a part of the team, even if was just touching the ball or saving a goal. When they scream with excitement when the game is about to start and finish makes it worth it!
