SportsPower Local Legend: Kenny Quartermaine
Our local legend from Katanning
Kenny was nominated by Stacey to be a SportsPower local legend. Here’s what Stacey had to say…
Kenny has played football all his life and dedicated a huge part of it to our town’s football club. He has been on the committee for around 24 years including two terms as President, bar manager and general committee member. For 20 years he has volunteered as the clubs only trainer for all grades, from Coltsthrough to League. He gives up his entire Sunday to strap, massage players and provide on-field medical assistance.
After that nomination, we wanted to have a further Q&A with Kenny to really understand this legend.
How did you get into your chosen sport?
I got into footy through my father. He played footy locally & coached junior teams and it was a natural progression to follow in his footsteps.
Do you have a favourite brand, product, or range that you like to buy from SportsPower?
I always wear Asics joggers as I have to have one of my shoes built up, due to a leg operation, and these joggers are easy to convert. Asics are so comfortable and being on my feet all day at footy, comfort is something I really look for.
What are some of your training tips?
I always tell the players to be the best they can be. Always strive to play to the best of your ability and to enjoy your footy. My favourite training tip is to always train, as you want to play.
How do you stay motivated?
My motivation is simply my love of footy and sport in general. I enjoy the friendships and camaraderie that come with sport.
What’s your favourite quote?
My favourite quote and one I’m very well known for around the club is, “a champion team will beat a team of champions”.
Who is your sporting legend?
My sporting legends were Robbie Flower who always made the game look easy and played effortlessly and Tim Watson who started to play footy at such a young age and always conducted himself admirably.
