by Robert Laudani

Winter has come, but don’t let the cold, wet and gloomy weather damper your spirits. Fight the cold and stay dry by exercising at your own leisure in the warmth and comfort of your home.

We’ve covered various types and forms of exercises in previous blogs, but the easiest way to be active in your home is by doing body weight exercises or even incorporating modified functional movements whilst doing household activities or chores. However, there are several other ways to be active at home, so lets have a look at some options.

RESISTANCE BANDS

Microbands, Therabands and Powertubes are a very cost effective way of doing multiple workouts at home and have multiple levels of resistance from light to medium to heavy. This is a great way to improve strength, muscle tone and work the whole body. Here are a few examples:

YOGA

Try something relaxing and mindful such as yoga. This can be quite beneficial to relieve stress after work or help you wind down after a busy day. Yoga helps you become more aware of your body and mind, leading to health benefits such as, improved flexibility, respiration, energy and vitality. There are many tutorial videos or audio clips that you can watch and listen to at home and get started.

MASSAGE THERAPY

Another way to be active indoors is via massage therapy. You don’t need to go to a massage therapist you can do it yourself by using a foam roller or even a spiky ball. These fitness accessories can help improve flexibility, increase joint range of motion and help with reducing soreness from exercise by improving the circulation around the body.
